Missing out on Champions League will cost Man United £40m as club look set for Europa League campaign

Manchester United reveal the cost of being in Europa League instead of Champions League is
Manchester United estimate the cost of being in the Europa League instead of the Champions League next season to be £40million. However, United believe the overall financial blow to the club would be less than £10m because players' wages drop significantly if they not Europe's premier competition under a clause in their contracts. United must beat Bournemouth in their final Premier League game at Old Trafford on Sunday and hope that rivals Manchester City lose at Swansea to claim a top-four place and qualify for the Champions League.
