'It's my worst day as a manager... we were terrible for our fans': Pochettino fumes as Spurs are pipped to second by Arsenal
Mauricio Pochettino slammed his Tottenham Hotspur players and described their 5-1 collapse at relegated Newcastle as his 'worst day as a manager' as they surrendered second position to rivals Arsenal. Spurs needed just a point to guarantee runners-up spot - and to finish above the Gunners for the first time in 21 years - but were soundly beaten despite playing the final 25 minutes against 10 men, during which time Newcastle scored three. A furious Pochettino has now promised to hold a full inquest into their performance and has apologised to the club's supporters, 3,000 of whom made the trip to St James' Park.

RONALDOOO ARE MAKE NEW RCORD IN LA LIGA
5 STARS ARE FAILED IN EPL 2015/2016
They knifed me: Van Gaal blames Scholes and Co as his Man United job goes on the line in Premier League crunch day
Louis van Gaal will hold club legend Paul Scholes responsible if he gets the sack at Old Trafford this summer. The Manchester United manager is convinced sections of the supporters would not have turned against him without Scholes’ harsh attacks on television and radio that were then taken up by the wider media.Scholes, who won 11 Premier League titles and the Champions League under Sir Alex Ferguson, said as early as October that Van Gaal’s style of play would have left him ‘tearing his hair out’ in the first of several stinging attacks on the Dutchman.
Louis van Gaal is convinced supporters would not have turned on him without criticism from ex-players
BT Sport pundit Paul Scholes has been extremely critical this season calling United a 'shambles' and 'disaster'
In the following months, fans at Old Trafford booed Van Gaal, most notably after a 1-0 home defeat by Southampton in January when it appeared that he might be replaced by Jose Mourinho. At various times, Scholes has called United under LVG a ‘shambles’ and ‘disaster’.Van Gaal’s hopes of clinging on to his job will suffer a blow if United fail to overtake Manchester City and claim a Champions League spot in Sunday's final round of matches.United are in fifth spot, two points behind Manuel Pellegrini’s men and have to hope they beat Bournemouth at Old Trafford and City lose at Swansea. They face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup Final at Wembley on Saturday.Van Gaal is still bullish about his prospects of seeing out the final year of his contract next season, perhaps buoyed by division within United’s boardroom about who would take over. But David Moyes was sacked after United had failed to qualify for the Champions League.‘In spite of the attacks of the media – and not only the media, the legends and other kinds of people – I am here and I am fighting, I am an open book,’ he said.‘And I believe in myself, I believe in Manchester, I believe in the players. I hope that everybody is believing like me, then it is much more easier.
